Amy Wins Ladies Golf Tournament

You're never to young to start learning to play golf

Gold Coast Golf School student Amy, a 16-year-old Korean amateur, steamed ahead of some of the world's finest professionals in a recent Australian Ladies Golf Tournament.

This was an outstanding performance by young Amy, considering it was only her second appearance in a professional tournament.

She's been playing golf for six-and-a-half years, lives on the Gold Coast, not far from the Australian High Performance Golf Academy and Gold Coast Golf School.

"I've been coaching her for just over a year, and am proud that she has lived up to our claims of "lower golf scores in record time"!, says Gold Coast Golf School and AHPGA Director, Lawrie Montague.

Amy claimed victory in dramatic style at the Golf Tournament, with rounds of 69, 66, 70, 70, for a total of 13-under-par 275

She outplayed some of the best female players in the world and also became the only amateur to ever win a professional ladies event in Australia.

After leading through most of the tournament, Amy eventually won in a gripping one-hole play-off.

With her victory, Amy has become the first amateur to win this event in 22 years.

"I played well today. I did my best," said Amy

Amy moved to Australia with her family to play golf just 14 months ago, and since her time at the AHPGA, her performance has improved greatly.

There is now tremendous opportunity for Amy. She will undoubtedly invitations to other prestigious tournaments. This will fit in alongside her schooling at her High School on the Gold Coast, where she is in year 11.

She has decided to remain as an amateur until she is at least 18 years of age. When she's not being coached at the Australian High Performance Golf Academy, she's often seen at the Greg Norman-designed Glades course, where she's a member, and competes off a scratch handicap.

Find a good golf instructor early in your child's development and build a committed relationship with them. Ask around and find a coach who is getting success with junior golfers and interview them about their approach to teaching junior golfers.

I've seen many parents chop and change golf teachers to the detriment of their son or daughter's golf progress.

It is critical to start laying down a good golf technique as early as possible and going to different teachers looking for the ultimate golf lesson doesn't work and will lead to confusion and dissatisfaction.
